Cleared for Publication: Border Police and IDF forces from the Jordan Valley regional brigade thwarted on February 7 the smuggling of dozens of handguns from Jordan into Israeli territory.
“This is a complex operational activity that combined very advanced technological means with combat soldiers who operated in a number of scenarios, including observation, ambushes, and intelligence means,” the commander of the operation said.
During the operation, the soldiers noticed a suspect trying to cross the border in the northern Jordan Valley with a large backpack.
Security forces arrested the Muslim smuggler. Upon searching, 37 handguns of various types were found in his bag.
In addition, the forces managed to arrest three other Muslim smugglers who were waiting for him in two vehicles in Israeli territory. They were supposed to pick him up and drive him away.
Four Muslim terrorists from the Shechem area were arrested in total.
Earlier today, Police officers operating at the Meggido Junction in northern Israel, stopped a suspicious vehicle whose passengers attempted to smuggle M-16 rifles from the Palestinian Authority into Israel.
